Clinics in Brampton and Peterborough

Laser and shockwave therapies are safe and effective ways to significantly reduce pain and inflammation associated with many musculoskeletal conditions, such as tendonitis and bursitis, arthritis, inflammation, and many other sports injuries.

The team at Stride Orthotics & Rehab administer laser and/or shockwave therapy as prescribed by your doctor, in a comfortable setting to provide a positive experience.

Laser and shockwave therapy treatments performed in our clinics are a non-invasive treatment option to speed up the natural healing response of the body. These quick sessions reduce pain with minimal side effects. Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT)

ESWT helps relieve pain by sending a series of sound waves to the injured part of your body. An inflammatory response occurs due to this mechanical force, which is your body’s natural healing process. The ESWT process causes an increase in blood circulation and metabolism to the injured area. This non-invasive therapy is an effective treatment option for chronic conditions that have not responded to traditional therapies

What Conditions are treated with ESWT

  • Achilles Tendonitis
  • Greater Trochanteric Bursitis
  • Iliotibial band friction syndrome
  • Myofascial Pain Syndrome
  • Patellar Tendonitis
  • Piriformis Syndrome
  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Rotator Cuff pathologies/tendonits/bursitis
  • Shin Splints
  • Tennis and Golfer’s Elbow (Epicondylitis)

Class IV Laser Therapy

This type of treatment uses photonic energy (light energy) to deeply penetrate the tissue of the injured area of your body. This stimulates your body’s natural healing processes by increasing blood flow and metabolism to the affected tissue.

Class IV laser therapy is effective because damaged cells have been shown to accept photon energy better than normal, healthy cells. This is known as photobiostimulation, and is proven to heal pain faster and get you moving again.

Benefits of Class IV laser therapy:

  • Reduces pain and inflammation quickly
  • Increases blood flow, metabolism, collagen production, and vascular activity in the affected area
  • Improves nerve conduction
  • Promotes faster healing of soft tissue and bones
  • Helps create new blood vessels
  • Decreases muscle spasm and pain

Laser Therapy FAQs

How do I know if I need laser therapy or shockwave therapy?

Your physician will present the best treatment options for your diagnosis, which may include one or a combination of these therapies.

How often will I have to have laser or shockwave therapy?

Your physician will decide on which treatment(s) and the duration. In most cases you’ll only have to come in once per week.

Do I need both shockwave and Class IV laser therapy?

Depending on your diagnosis, having both treatments during the same session may be appropriate to provide accelerated healing. Your physician will discuss combined treatment options with you.

What are the side effects of ESWT or laser therapy?

You may experience some swelling, redness, and pain during therapy, but these symptoms usually disappear with a few hours.

How long does therapy take?

Most treatments take about 5 – 15 minutes.

Is everyone a candidate for shockwave or laser therapy?

No, not everyone is a candidate for Shockwave or Laser Therapy. There are pre-existing conditions, medications, pregnancy, if treatment would be in an area of the body that has cancerous cells or tumours, etc. that would exclude you from these treatments. It is important to have a referral from your physician recommending these treatments prior to the start of treatment.
